ABOUT ANDY

I began my career in the strength & conditioning industry in 2001, as an intern while attending Texas A&M University.  In 2003, I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was proud to serve multiple combat tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom between 2003-2007.  While serving on active duty, I continued to train student athletes and general fitness clients at various gym in Orange County CA.  During that time, I also received my undergraduate degree in Health & Sport Science from the American Military University.

In 2007, I opened the doors to Kingwood Strength & Conditioning (now Baker Personal Training) and have served as the owner and lead trainer for the past 16 years!   Since 2007 we have been Kingwood’s leading personal training facility – our members range from Division I college athletes to clients in their 80s!

I hold the industry’s highest credentials from the National Strength & Conditioning Association, USA Weightlifting, and am a certified Starting Strength Coach. I have also competed as a Raw and Drug-Free Powerlifter with the Natural Athlete Strength Association.  In 2010, I won the N.A.S.A. Grand Nationals in the 198 lb raw division. My winning total included a 529 lb Squat, 380 lb Bench Press, and 562 lb Deadlift.

In 2014, I was proud to be asked to co-author the rewrite to one of the most influential programming books in our industry – Practical Programming for Strength Training – alongside industry icon Mark Rippetoe.  PPST3 remains one of the best-selling books on the market today in the health and fitness category.

In 2016, I co-authored The Barbell Prescription – Training for Life After 40 with Dr. Jonathan Sullivan.  It remains the most comprehensive text available on the subject of strength training through the aging process.

In 2022, I was honored to coach my long time client Shelly Stettner to the IPF Masters World Championships.  At 71 years old, Shelly rewrote the record book in the M4 class with her 1st place finish.

MY GYM IN KINGWOOD, TX

Baker Personal Training & Gym

I opened the doors to Kingwood Strength & Conditioning in 2007, shortly after my enlistment from the Marine Corps. Owning my own gym has been a life goal for me since the first time I touched a barbell at 12 years old. During my 16 years as owner I have been privileged to work with hundreds of clients from the surrounding communities. We have worked with dozens of NCAA Division I athletes, high school athletes, competitive lifters, moms, dads, business professionals....anyone who wants to get stronger and improve their lives through strength training. On a given day I might find myself working with someone preparing for an amateur MMA fight and a client in her late 80s trying to prevent going into a wheelchair. We might simultaneously find ourselves working with a client preparing for a triathalon to someone battling their way through chemotherapy.

I have brought my skills and experiences as a gym owner and personal trainer into the online coaching realm. Unlike many online coaches - my programs and methods have been "battle tested" - on the gym floor with real actual clients.

In 2020 we changed the name of the gym to Baker Personal Training as we shifted away from the training of sport athletes to our primary focus of helping those adults age 50 and beyond fight the aging process through barbell based strength training.
